Small Spaces are a Challenge Sometimes

Welcome back friends and family. Have you ever gone online searching for organizational tips for small spaces?  I have many times over the years.  I absolutely hate when I go online and search for organization tips and such for small spaces and get these posts promising that and see they've got big walk in pantries or a lot of cabinets space or whatever.  Does this annoy you also?   I love my home, don't get me wrong, but it has very little in the way of cabinets, or storage space in general.  My kitchen has exactly 7 cabinets and 2 are only about 6 inches wide.  I had no pantry at all until my sweet husband bought me a storage cabinet to put in the kitchen.  So when I try to organize any of my spaces it drives me crazy cause I have so many ideas but can not implement any of them because of space.  Oh, and I should also mention, my laundry room is in the kitchen too.

This is not a how to or DIY post. This is more of a this is what I did and to show you that there is hope for you and your small spaces as well. My hope is that this will encourage you to keep trying with your small space. It is doable.

I'm going to share with you what I decided to do with my cabinets above my washer and dryer. It was a lot of work and I had to replace my shelf liners.

This is what my cabinet above my washer looks like now.  (Please don't fuss at me about the plastic in my cabinet, it's cheaper than glass and I can't afford to replace everything with glass right now).  I replaced my shelf liners with Dollar Tree vinyl. I don't use it much for crafting due to it being pretty thin but I do use it for other projects around the house.

This is what this same cabinet looked like before my redo. (I'm embarrassed to show it to you)

But now with this small space reorganized it should be easier to keep clean and organized, even for my kids.

I have 2 cabinets above my washer and dryer. One has a shelf in it and the other does not. This is how my second cabinet turned out.

I used a Dollar Tree basket on top to house our lunch boxes and put my glass mixing and serving bowls in the cabinet. I also placed my larger storage bowls on top of the cabinet as well. Again, the hope is that it will be easier to keep organized in this small space.

Again, I am embarrassed to show you the before pictures.

As you can see, I have very small spaces to work with. While this has been a trial and error challenge for me, it has been very worth it to finally have spaces that are actually useful.

My husband put shelves up above the washer and dryer so we have more space. I love these shelves. They are rustic looking and beautiful.

I wanted to utilize these to their fullest potential. So, I used some more Dollar Tree baskets and such to store my laundry pods and our snack containers. I put my pitchers and some of the bowls we use more frequently on these shelves as well.

This is my shelf before and it is probably the worst I've ever allowed it to be. This absolutely made me sick to look at.

I now have a beautiful "laundry room" and storage cabinets. With the changes that I have made, it will be easier to get to things and get things put away.

I hope this encourages you my friends. You can get your small spaces looking amazing and useful. Check out Dollar Tree for organizational items. I love going to that section of the stores to see what new items they have. I don't worry too much about the colors of the bins and baskets but if you want  them to be matching your colors you can always paint them with paint that is good for plastic.

Happy organizing. I'd love to see how you've organized your small spaces. Comment below or send me an email. Let me know if this has inspired you to get your home organized or if this has helped you to see your small spaces in a new light. Until next time, have a great weekend.

A Tip to Help With Chaotic Cleaning

Welcome back friends and family. Today we are gonna combine cleaning with a little crafting.  How many of us, while cleaning house, find things that belong in the kids rooms or the living room or the bathroom or even your room?  Well, in this post I'm going to show you how I've taken steps to combat this because this drives me crazy when I already clean like I have ADHD. Now I'm not saying anything negative about ADHD because both my kids have been diagnosed with ADHD so I understand how this can affect someone and their lives. I'm simply saying that when I clean I cannot stay focused on a task because I'm constantly picking things up and going to another room where I see something else that needs to be done and I start working on that, etc. I then forget to go back and finish what I've already started. I still struggle with this every time I clean but this little tip/trick has helped a lot. I also call this "Chaotic Cleaning". I have found these great...

Using Dollar Tree's LA's Totally Awesome

Welcome back friends and family. Did you know that Dollar Tree's LA's Totally Awesome brand has a ton of products for your home?  There is everything from the original cleaner (yellow stuff in the bottle) to laundry detergent to bathroom cleaner.  I just got some of the original cleaner last weekend and I've got to tell you it is totally awesome.                              (This is a stock photo taken from Dollar Tree's website.) I did some checking around and have found that this can be purchased at other retailers and other online store but it is more expensive and you get less product. This bottle here is $1.25 for 32 Fl. Oz. Or 12 for $15.00.  You can get 2 bottles of the exact same thing on Amazon but they are currently $10 but it was $14.99.  I love Amazon and shop online all the time but why pay $5 when I can pay $1.25?  Again I love to save money and do things with a...

Quick and Easy DIY Decor

Welcome back friends and family. Today if like to show you a quick little DIY. I found this  little sign at Dollar Tree a few weeks ago and thought it was cute as is but wanted to make it just a bit better.  Now, like I said, this is cute as is and can easily be placed on a shelf or a tired tray and be perfect for you. I wanted it to be a little extra. I removed the flower but will keep it for another project. It came right out without any extra tools or anything.  The next thing I did was to sand away any rough surface around the hole. Once that was done I used just a regular black sharpie and put dots and small lines all along the outside of the letters just to make them stand out just a little more. I think it really made the letters pop and made it look just a bit more high end.  I found this really cute garland with wooden beads and these little circles with sailboats back when Dollar Tree had all their nautical décor out at t...
